LexisNexis Bets on Practitioner-Consultants to Drive AI Adoption at Large Law Firms

The appointment reflects a broader industry reckoning: legal AI tools have proliferated faster than law firms' willingness — or ability — to deploy them at scale.

LexisNexis has positioned Lexis+ with Protégé as its flagship AI workflow platform for enterprise law firms, but technical sophistication alone has not been enough to accelerate adoption inside large practices where risk tolerance is low and institutional inertia runs deep. Competitors including Thomson Reuters, with its CoCounsel product, and a wave of well-funded legal AI startups such as Harvey and EvenUp have intensified pressure on LexisNexis to demonstrate not just product quality but implementation credibility. Hiring lawyers who have lived the workflows they are now redesigning is one answer to that pressure.
