AKD has joined Legora's global Lighthouse Partner programme, becoming the only Benelux firm in the programme as of June 3, 2026.
The partnership signals a shift in how law firms are approaching AI, moving beyond internal efficiency tools toward client-facing legal workflows that integrate directly into client operations. For a region where AI adoption in legal services is still taking shape, AKD's move marks a notable step forward.
The Partnership Terms
As a Lighthouse Partner, AKD gains privileged access to Legora's latest platform features and will work alongside Legora's teams to co-develop new client applications. The Lighthouse designation is reserved for a limited number of leading international firms. AKD is currently the only firm across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg to hold this status.
The focus of the collaboration is building client-facing tools and intelligent legal workflows that can be embedded directly into clients' own decision-making processes. This goes beyond the internal productivity use cases that most law firms are currently pursuing with AI.
Why This Is Different
Carlos Pita Cao, Managing Partner at AKD, stated: "This partnership with Legora is about much more than adopting new technology. It is about rethinking how legal expertise can be delivered, integrated and scaled in a way that improves how we work and deliver value to our clients."
The distinction Pita Cao draws matters. Most law firm AI deployments today target internal tasks such as document review, research, and drafting. AKD's arrangement with Legora centres on tools that clients themselves can use to access and apply legal analysis within their day-to-day operations.
What Clients Can Expect
Harm Kerstholt, Partner at AKD and lead of the Lighthouse initiative, described the direction: "We are moving beyond traditional legal delivery models towards solutions that allow clients to access and apply legal intelligence more directly within their day-to-day operations. That creates opportunities for faster decision-making, greater scalability and more proactive legal support."
Selected clients and multidisciplinary teams across AKD will take part in developing and testing new applications in the period ahead. No specific timeline or client names have been disclosed.
Legora's Platform and Scale
Legora has reached over $100 million in annual recurring revenue and a $5.6 billion valuation following its Series D funding round. The platform serves over 1,200 law firms and in-house legal teams across more than 50 markets.
Max Junestrand, CEO and co-founder of Legora, described what makes the partnership distinct: "They didn't come to us asking for a tool to tick a box. They came with a real ambition to rethink how they deliver expertise to clients. We're not just deploying technology, we're co-building something new together."
The Legora Portal, on which AKD will build client solutions, is designed to support end-to-end legal tasks and integrates directly with existing legal workflows.
